Description
Handcrafted original aircraft skin from an AIRBUS A340-300.
The Airbus A340 is a four-engined, long-range, wide-body passenger airliner developed in parallel with the A330 twinjet to bypass ETOPS restrictions on trans-oceanic routes. The Airbus A340 family includes four variants: the standard -300 variant, the shortened -200 variant, the longer -500 variant and the longest -600 variant. While the -500/-600 variants being powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 500 series engines, the -200/300 model are powered by four CFMI CFM56-5C engines.
On October 25, 1991, F-WWAI, the very first Airbus A340 prototype, took off at Toulouse for the first time. The airframe was built as the standard A340-300 variant, which eventually became the most successful variant of the family. From the total 380 Airbus A340 airframes ever built, 219 were built as the A340-300 variant.
On September 6, 2001, the Airbus A340-313 MSN 424 took its maiden flight at Toulouse. The brand-new airliner featured 54 business-class seats and 207 economy class seats. On September 26, this A340 was delivered to SAS Scandinavian Airlines, the flag carrier airline of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, with a Swedish registration number SE-REB and a new name Gudrod Viking. Shortly after the delivery, it was re-registered to a Norwegian registration number LN-RKG on November 30, presumably due to changes in ownership structure of SAS. Interestingly though, despite all the connections with Sweden and Norway, the operation of Gudrod Viking was based at Copenhagen, Denmark.
In its 18.5 years of service, Gudrod Viking completed 94,334 airborne hours and 10,665 safe landings, carrying millions of passengers on the intercontinental long-haul flights. The top destinations are normally Star Alliance hubs, including Beijing, Tokyo Narita, Chicago, Shanghai Pudong, Bangkok, San Francisco, Seattle, Newark, Washington Dulles and Singapore.
On March 28, 2019, a sticker "Mao Sun / Xing Er - Welcome to Copenhagen" was applied to the fuselage of LN-RKG, preparing for the arrival of two pandas "Mao Sun" and "Xing Er" from Beijing. On April 4, the two pandas arrived at Copenhagen taking flight SK996 operated by LN-RKG.
With the arrival of the newest A350 and the acceleration of the pandemic, SAS decided to retire the entire A340 fleet in 2020. On March 12, LN-RKG completed its last commercial flight SK984 from Tokyo Narita to Copenhagen, finishing its career as Gudrod Viking. Although being the "most used" A340 in the SAS fleet of eight A340s, LN-RKG, the most reliable workhorse, was ferried to Castellon, Spain for scrap.
We were able to purchase the logos from the nose of LN-RKG and made these amazing tags for you. Welcome back, Gudrod Viking!
