Description
Qantas, as an acronym of 'Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services', is the flag carrier of Australia. Each Qantas airliner is painted with "The Flying Kangaroo" logo on the tail, operating regular flights to all seven continents. As one of the oldest airlines in the world, Qantas is officially known as the safest airline in the world considering the shocking fact that the airline has zero fatal accident or hull loss ever since the jet age.
Qantas was once the world's only all-747 operator since the jumbo jet was a perfect long haul airliner for the geographical nature of Australia. The airline is also the world's only airline to operate -100/-200/-300/-400 and -SP models of 747 at the same time.
On December 21, 1984, the Boeing 747-338 msn 23223 took its first flight at Everett. After the test flight, this jumbo jet was ferried PAE-LAX January 25, 1985 as VH-EBU. Two days later, VH-EBU was delivered LAX-HNL-SYD as QF501. It was later named 'City of Sydney' as the newest flagship of Qantas. On October 19, 1995, the 10-year-old VH-EBU entered maintenance at Sydney. The next month on November 14, VH-EBU was rolled out with the very special 'Nalanji Dreaming' Aboriginal livery to mark the 75th Anniversary of Qantas!
'Nalanji' is the Aboriginal word for 'our place'. Nalanji Dreaming is a celebration of the balance and harmony of nature in 'our place' Australia. Inspired by Australia's ancient cultural traditions dating back 40,000 years, the contemporary artwork 'Nalanji Dreaming' reflects the lush colour palette of tropical Australia.
On February 1, 2005, the legendary 'Nalanji Dreaming' was ferried SYD-AVV for long-term storage. The airframe was later painted all-white with 'Avalon Airport' titles and was used for security training purposes. However, after 18 years of peaceful retirement, the life of the 'Nalanji Dreaming' has finally come to an end. Despite being one of the most famous and one of the last existing special-liveried Boeing 747s, VH-EBU was eventually broken up in June 2023.
As a tag manufacturer, it is been our mission to preserve some pieces of the 'Nalanji Dreaming' against its inevitable fate. Some fuselage skin cuts ware successfully rescued just one day before the teardown. The high expenses failed to stop us, the lack of high-quality photos for reference failed to stop us, the layers of cover paint failed to stop us. Instead those difficulties forced us to do our best to present you with this very special edition of airlinertags. Ladies and gentlemen, the 'Nalanji Dreaming' will live on as your Airlinertags!
