The Boeing 747 is the world's first wide-body passenger aircraft manufactured by Boeing in the United States. The aircraft is often called the "Jumbo Jet" and is more commonly known as the "Queen of the Skies". The Boeing 747 was born in 1969, carrying passengers. While the volume has increased significantly, operating costs and air ticket prices have been reduced, making it possible for the general public to travel around the world. It has had a huge and far-reaching impact on the rapid development of the aviation industry and even the progress of human civilisation.
After the great success of the early 747-100/-200, Boeing launched the upgraded 747-400 in 1988, which was based on a substantial upgrade of the 747-300 with a longer upper deck. Compared with previous models, the newly upgraded 747-400 introduced a very advanced "glass cockpit" at the time (that is, a cockpit with digital comprehensive display of flight instruments), and the number of pilots was reduced from three to two (the flight deck was eliminated aviation engineer). At the same time, Boeing strengthened the 747-400's airframe structure to obtain a greater maximum takeoff weight, allowing engineers to install auxiliary fuel tanks on the tail, add winglets on both sides of the wing, and most importantly, choose larger and more fuel-efficient aircraft of the engine. These improvements gave the 747-400 more advanced avionics, longer range and higher efficiency, and ultimately made the 747-400 series the most successful model in the legendary 747 family.
On January 15, 1993, the Boeing 747-4J6 passenger aircraft with manufacturer serial number 25881 completed its first flight at Paine Field next to the Boeing Everett factory in Seattle. The aircraft was officially registered with registration number B-2443 on February 4. After completing testing and acceptance, this brand-new "Queen of the Skies" was transferred back to China on February 24 and delivered for operation. The aircraft is equipped with four Pratt-Whitney PW4056 engines and has 10 first-class, 42 business-class and 292 economy-class seats. It has been the flagship model of my country's civil aviation fleet for a long time.
During its 22-year passenger transport career, B-2443, wearing the classic blue waistline livery and carrying the five-star red flag, flew to world-class cities such as New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and Frankfurt, as well as to Beijing and Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and other major domestic airports. On February 10, 2014, B-2443 flew the last Beijing-San Francisco flight CA985 before the Boeing 777-300ER took over, marking the withdrawal of Continental Civil Aviation’s passenger 747-400 fleet from the intercontinental stage. Since then, B-2443 has regularly flown domestic routes such as Beijing-Shanghai and Beijing-Shenzhen, and has also flown to Tokyo Narita several times. It also flew to Sanya for "vacation" during the Spring Festival in 2015.
On March 1, 2015, B-2443 flew flight CA1346 from Sanya to Beijing. After a flight of 4 hours and 6 minutes, it landed steadily at Beijing Capital International Airport for the last time at 15:31 pm. At this point, after 22 years of service and 74,461 hours and 28 minutes of flight, this aging "Queen of the Skies" successfully completed its last flight mission and retired honourably.
Unfortunately, as the four-engine passenger aircraft gradually retired from the stage of history, other airlines did not buy the B-2443 and continue to operate it; and with the end of the 747 passenger-cargo conversion project, the B-2443 also lost the opportunity to be converted into a freighter. In October 2018, after three and a half years of waiting, B-2443 finally met the fate of being dismantled...
It was still a year before the creation of Airlinertags, so we were unable to salvage any materials before B-2443 was crushed. Under normal circumstances, B-2443 will be completely dismantled like most retired aircraft and will only remain in the memories of civil aviation personnel and flying friends. But in 2021, we accidentally purchased a right winglet of a 747-400. After several years of research, we found that the winglet came from B-2443! Since the little wings were partially missing when they were discovered and are no longer complete, we decided to make them into this batch of Airlinertags to share with you who love flying.
2443, calm wind on the ground, welcome home!
